Scripture Reference: Genesis 3:1-5

“Now the serpent was more subtil than any beast of the field which the LORD God had made. And he said unto the woman, Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden? And the woman said unto the serpent, We may eat of the fruit of the trees of the garden: but of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God hath said, Ye shall not eat of it, neither shall ye touch it, lest ye die. And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die: for God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil.”

Gaslighting is a form of mental, emotional and in some cases physical abuse or manipulation in which the abuser tries to plant seeds of self-doubt and confusion in their victim’s mind. Oftentimes, gaslighters are bent on gaining power and control over another individual, by twisting reality and causing them to question their own beliefs, motivations and what they know to be true. As followers of GOD in these days and times, our very faith in GOD’s Word and I do mean every Word just as it is written is under attack.. and it all started from the very beginning of the creation of mankind.

While of course, we cannot find the terminology “gaslighting” written anywhere in the Holy Scriptures, we are however warned against forms of it.

GOD Himself said to Adam: “And he said, Who told thee that thou wast naked? Hast thou eaten of the tree, whereof I commanded thee that thou shouldest not eat?”

Adam and Eve tried to hide themselves from GOD after they heard His Voice and then made the excuse that they were naked. What followed set the course for them being kicked out of the Garden of Eden as each blamed another for their disobedience. Ultimately, we too must give an account of why (if it applies to us) we did not obey His every Word. Instead of reading the Word for ourselves and asking GOD to open up our understanding.. will we blame the Pastors, preachers and teachers who are corrupting the Word to satisfy their own flesh while warping the minds of many with false rhetoric? Maybe we will blame others who behind a lack of knowledge of the Word simply make up what they personally interpret that the Word is saying while in reality they are blind to the truth of His Word and cause us to be misguided.

“But he answered and said, Every plant, which my heavenly Father hath not planted, shall be rooted up. Let them alone: they be blind leaders of the blind. And if the blind lead the blind, both shall fall into the ditch.”

Final Thought: As this series on “Gaslighting The Gospel” unfolds, I pray that we all are not only made aware of the dangers of not going directly to GOD asking Him for more wisdom, but also that from here on we the more will be more than capable of identifying the “gaslighters” sent by the enemy (The Father of Lies) to kill our joy, steal our confidence in GOD and destroy our futures.

“If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him. But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed. For let not that man think that he shall receive any thing of the Lord. A double minded man is unstable in all his ways.”
