Scripture Reference: Exodus 1:15-22, Exodus 2: 1-9
Most of you know of or have heard the Story of Moses, but have you considered the deeper revelation of what his birth symbolized? Sure, he would go on to lead the Children of Israel out of Egypt as GOD rescued them from the bondage of slavery under the Pharaoh King, but his life purposed for much more than that. Marked for death along with every other Hebrew male born in the land, Moses never should have had a future but GOD intervened on his behalf and from that moment nothing happened by chance. Your life is no different.. think of the times in your own life that the Hand of GOD changed the course of your path so much so that you now see it more clearly just how intentional our GOD really is. So let’s dive in!!!
“and he said, When ye do the office of a midwife to the Hebrew women, and see them upon the stools; if it be a son, then ye shall kill him: but if it be a daughter, then she shall live.” Exodus 1:16 KJV
The Pharaoh King gave an order to the Hebrew midwives to kill every baby boy and to spare the lives of every baby girl. In His ignorance he did not realize that the Hebrews were GOD’s Chosen People and that their reverence for GOD far outweighed what he could ever do to them.
“But the midwives feared God, and did not as the king of Egypt commanded them, but saved the men children alive. And the king of Egypt called for the midwives, and said unto them, Why have ye done this thing, and have saved the men children alive? And the midwives said unto Pharaoh, Because the Hebrew women are not as the Egyptian women; for they are lively, and are delivered ere the midwives come in unto them.”
Exodus 1:17-19 KJV
The Hebrew midwives took no regard for what the Pharaoh King had told them to do and instead did just the opposite. GOD caused the hearts of the midwives to be defiant in obedience allowing the male babies to live. It was even GOD who caused the Pharaoh King’s heart to grow even more cold towards the Hebrew people as he issued yet another demand on the lives of the Hebrew born males.
“Therefore God dealt well with the midwives: and the people multiplied, and waxed very mighty. And it came to pass, because the midwives feared God, that he made them houses. And Pharaoh charged all his people, saying, Every son that is born ye shall cast into the river, and every daughter ye shall save alive.” Exodus 1:20-22 KJV
GOD rewarded the brave actions of the midwives who feared Him against the Pharaoh King’s orders. That still didn’t stop the Pharaoh however, as he then decreed that the male born Hebrews were to be tossed in the river to drown.
“And the woman conceived, and bare a son: and when she saw him that he was a goodly child, she hid him three months. And when she could not longer hide him, she took for him an ark of bulrushes, and daubed it with slime and with pitch, and put the child therein; and she laid it in the flags by the river’s brink.” Exodus 2:2-3 KJV
Moses’ Mother realized that he was not like any other child and knew that she had to save his life when it became too dangerous to keep him hidden any longer. She made a small ark (think of Noah) to hide him in and sat it on the edge of the riverbank. When has GOD caused you to be kept safe from certain danger during your life? Whether it be from health issues, automobile accidents, a chosen lifestyle, misfortunes at birth or even from others who wanted to see your destruction?
“And the daughter of Pharaoh came down to wash herself at the river; and her maidens walked along by the river’s side; and when she saw the ark among the flags, she sent her maid to fetch it. And when she had opened it, she saw the child: and, behold, the babe wept. And she had compassion on him, and said, This is one of the Hebrews’ children. Then said his sister to Pharaoh’s daughter, Shall I go and call to thee a nurse of the Hebrew women, that she may nurse the child for thee? And Pharaoh’s daughter said to her, Go. And the maid went and called the child’s mother.”
Exodus 2:5-8 KJV
It just so happened that the very daughter of the Pharaoh King was taking her bath in the river and noticed the small ark. When Moses began to cry, in her heart she had compassion for him and instead of drowning him as was ordered by her Father, she showed mercy on his life. When one of her maidens asked her if she should go and get one of the Hebrew midwives to look after the child, the Princess agreed. The very midwife that the maiden chose was none other than Moses’ own Mother. Coincidence? Nah.. By chance? Not hardly..
Final Thought: So let’s unpack this shall we.. even when evil is present, GOD has already gone before it and has purposely made a way for us to escape! As Moses’ life is a true example for us all, when GOD has chosen you to fulfill His Eternal Plans no one and nothing can ever stop you! Just when you think that you are all alone in the struggles of this life, GOD will send help from sometimes the most unlikely sources to help you through it all! “The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge: But fools despise wisdom and instruction.”
Proverbs 1:7 KJV
Much like the midwives, having fear for the power of our GOD over our lives is not a weakness as one may choose to believe or reason in their minds, but is actually the start of greater rewards in our lives. NOTHING ABOUT GOD’s DIVINE INTERVENTION IS BY CHANCE!!!
