Scripture Reference: 2 Corinthians 1:3-6
It’s quite fair to say that as a loving parent will correct their child, they will also try their best to pour wisdom into the child after correcting them. That is, if they really love them. There is nothing comfortable about being corrected at any age, transparency included. Our Father in Heaven and hallowed be His Name, plainly tells us in His Word that when He does correct us it is because He loves us, not because He has some secret pleasure in seeing us squirm.
“As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten: be zealous therefore, and repent.”
Revelation 3:19 KJV
Our LORD says that He loves us enough to let us know when He does not approve of our actions, thoughts, reactions, and/or disobedience and through His kindness and mercy, He guides us back on track so that we continue to grow up in Him. As the good and wonderful Father that He is, His discipline of us comes with compassion to train us all in the way that we should go in this life. There is a need He says, for all of us to be eager to please Him by turning away from the things that we know are not right in His sight.
So let’s dive into the Scriptures as our Father both instructs us in how we should handle the times of discomfort that we will surely face in this life as well as how we also should help others by being living examples of the endurance and strength only found in and through CHRIST JESUS our LORD.
“Blessed be God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies, and the God of all comfort; who comforteth us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort them which are in any trouble, by the comfort wherewith we ourselves are comforted of God.”
2 Corinthians 1:3-4 KJV
First of all, isn’t it absolutely wonderful that we have a Father in Heaven Who despite all of our mistakes and sometimes often disobedience has let us know through His Holy Word, that He alone is the GOD wherein ALL of our comfort comes from? YES, The same GOD Who also shows us mercy each and every day of our lives with long suffering love unmatched by no other god nor human that we could ever imagine or think of!!! Who promised to be with us in those times when we are worried, afraid, sick, depressed, anxious, under pressure, abused, misused, ridiculed, hurt, humiliated, and sometimes physically, mentally and emotionally tormented. The same GOD, allows it all to happen so that while we are going through the storms of life and when He calms the raging seas of trouble, we that He has brought out of the valleys of the shadows of death can then reach back and help pull others through and out of whatever they are going through as well. We are able to do this by the faith that He has given to us all and belief in Him that He said that He would never leave us nor turn His back on us!!!
“For as the sufferings of Christ abound in us, so our consolation also aboundeth by Christ. And whether we be afflicted, it is for your consolation and salvation, which is effectual in the enduring of the same sufferings which we also suffer: or whether we be comforted, it is for your consolation and salvation.” 2 Corinthians 1:5-6 KJV
As sure as the sun rises in the East and sets in the West, we will all suffer something during our lifetime. Some maybe more than others simply by the choices that are made. Just as CHRIST JESUS suffered, bled and died for us all, so must we also suffer. Just as CHRIST JESUS overcame the World around Him, we have our confidence in and through Him being our only example that we too will overcome and can live our lives knowing that one day we too will rise and be lifted up into the glory of our One True and Living GOD!!! We can literally have joy in knowing that what we do go through (although seemingly unbearable in those moments) are minor at best, compared to the rewards that await us that truly believe in and have fully received His Plan of Salvation!!!
“For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us.”
Romans 8:18 KJV
Final Thought: “For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, worketh for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory;” 2 Corinthians 4:17 KJV
There is an expression that has been used over the years when someone asks: “How are you doing?” and the reply to that is “I’m good!” Being in GOD and I do mean with His Holy Spirit living, breathing and moving inside of us, though we really could be in a season of bodily pain, emotional agony and mental distress.. by His Word, we know that it is only for a moment. Only He knows how long the moments will last.. but, there is certain victory waiting on the other side, a glorified body to be changed into and a crown of righteousness like no other waiting to be received! So the next time that someone asks you how you’re really doing, you can say with your head held high: “I AM UNCOMFORTABLY GOOD!!!”
