Scripture Reference: Genesis 32:24-30
First things first, get past the word “pain”.. many nearly cringed just from the title work as if to say, “Uh oh, let me brace myself for this one!” Relax, pain is a part of our lives whether we like it or invite it to the party or not. Pain comes in many different forms and effects and affects everyone one of us differently. Putting the natural aside, our Spiritual journey until the Day of JESUS CHRIST also comes with bumps, bruises, scrapes and scars as many of you know or just may be experiencing at this very moment. However, the blessings of GOD through faith and trusting that He allows what He does to make us stronger in Him, are well worth the temporary discomfort.(Romans 8:18)
So, let’s dive in!
“And Jacob was left alone; and there wrestled a man with him until the breaking of the day. And when he saw that he prevailed not against him, he touched the hollow of his thigh; and the hollow of Jacob’s thigh was out of joint, as he wrestled with him.” Genesis 32:24-25 KJV
ALONE, that’s pain enough for some right? Jacob was grappling with a man all night long and was holding his own to the point that the man put his hip out of joint. We too fight.. faith vs. fear, trust vs. doubt, confidence vs. worry, you get the point. But, how much are we willing to take? How far are we willing to go?
“And he said, Let me go, for the day breaketh. And he said, I will not let thee go, except thou bless me.” Genesis 32:26 KJV
Even through the pain of a dislocated hip, Jacob held on to the man as the man said to release him. Jacob replied that he would not release his hold on the man, unless he blessed him. We too should be the same when it comes to actively pursuing what GOD has purposed us to do. Sitting, bunched in a square waiting for something to happen is not what our GOD intended us to do. But rather, get up and take hold of the promises that He made and use what He has already put inside of you to lead others to Him. (Jonah 1:2)
“And he said unto him, What is thy name? And he said, Jacob. And he said, Thy name shall be called no more Jacob, but Israel: for as a prince hast thou power with God and with men, and hast prevailed. And Jacob asked him, and said, Tell me, I pray thee, thy name. And he said, Wherefore is it that thou dost ask after my name? And he blessed him there. And Jacob called the name of the place Peniel: for I have seen God face to face, and my life is preserved.”
Genesis 32:27-30 KJV
Final Thought: GOD wants to give us all new names in and through Him. Not titles, or even positions.. but, through His Spirit we are changed. (Isaiah 43:19) GOD forbid we choose to ride the coattails of someone else’s labor, but what He has blessed us with will make room for itself. (Proverbs 18:16) Once we come to know GOD by offering ourselves up as human sacrifices to be used by Him, He himself will place us where He has already gone before us to open the doors, clear out the halls, and create the opportunities for us to operate in Him and through Him despite any and all opposition. (Luke 10:3, Matthew 10:16, John 20:21, Jeremiah 1:7) We all want to be blessed by GOD, hopefully not with more things but with more from Him to do while we yet live, so be glad because their is a need for PAIN and PERSISTENCE!!!
