I’m smiling and you’re probably like, “Wait, there’s no way he can compress all of these verses into only one blog!!!” O’ ye of little faith! Our GOD makes room for whatever He wills.. believe that!

So let’s dive in!!!

Ever had one or should I say many: “Not again!” moments? Me too. David had them too. As we unpack these Scriptures, these were just a few instances of the many trials that he found himself in. This one hit home for him, coming from his own son Absalom who wanted to overthrow him as the King of Israel. His own family? Yes! His own flesh and blood? Yes, again!

2 Samuel‬ ‭15‬:‭3‬-‭6‬, ‭10‬-‭13‬, ‭31‬ ‭KJV‬‬

Absalom began to conspire against David as he envisioned himself being the one that should be the decision maker in the kingdom. (vss. 3-5) So he then started to put his plan into action and everyone who he came in contact with that honored who he was, he treated them kindly and made them feel as though he actually cared about them. By doing so, as the Scripture says “..Absalom stole the hearts of the men of Israel.” (vs. 6)

“It may be that the LORD will look on mine affliction, and that the LORD will requite me good for his cursing this day.”

‭‭2 Samuel‬ ‭16‬:‭12‬ ‭KJV

David reasoned within himself while he spoke with Abishai and his servants to allow Shimei to continue to disrespect him. He knew in His heart that if he did not retaliate against the offense, that GOD would honor his humility.

2 Samuel 17:1-4

Ahithophel offered to Absalom, that he and twelve thousand men would go after David and those that were with him. He was counting on the people with David to be afraid and that he would catch him off guard and would kill him only. (vss. 1-2) He even suggested that he would bring David back as if nothing had happened to him so that the people would be at peace. Of course, this would not only serve its purpose for Absalom’s cause, but it also pleased him and those who were on his side. (vss. 3-4)

“Now therefore send quickly, and tell David, saying, Lodge not this night in the plains of the wilderness, but speedily pass over; lest the king be swallowed up, and all the people that are with him.” ‭‭2 Samuel‬ ‭17‬:‭16‬ ‭KJV‬‬

Just as He does for us even when we don’t realize it, GOD sent a warning to David that saved not only his life but, also the lives of those who were with him.

2 Samuel 17:21-23

Those that received the warning were hidden away, and when those sent by Absalom went back to Jerusalem, they told David where they all had to go to escape. (vss. 21-22) When Ahithophel saw that his plan failed, he killed himself. (vs. 23)

When others see that what they meant for evil to come to you, GOD turns around and works it for your good, it tends to kill the momentum they thought they had.

2 Samuel 18:14-15

Absalom met his death, although David had ordered for him to be dealt with fairly. Be careful of any evil growing roots in your heart and ask GOD to put it in check and remove it before it backfires on you.

Final Thought: What did we learn from Absalom and Ahithophel’s foolish fates? No matter who comes up against you, no matter what we face in this life.. in GOD through JESUS CHRIST we will always WIN and never lose hope.. even AGAINST ALL ODDS!!!
