Purge Me O’God

Scripture Reference: Psalm 51:10, Hebrews 9:14, 1 John 1:8-9, Acts 3:19, Proverbs 20:9

O’ how easy it is to point fingers at others when they mess up, but not at ourselves. How quickly we forget that we too were like many who have not come to know CHRIST JESUS yet, while hiding behind the cloak of self proclaimed perfection. The truth is we all need to be disinfected daily. When we take ownership of our own faults and ask GOD to remove them, we have zero time to reflect on anyone else’s.

The word “purge”, means to “rid (someone or something) of an unwanted quality, condition or feeling”. We know inside of us what needs to be cleaned up, shaken out, pulled loose and what we need to break free from. Certainly, while there is still time and we are awoken by GOD’s grace every morning, there is a need to ask GOD for help with all of these things and more.

So, let’s dive in!!!

“Create in me a clean heart, O God; And renew a right spirit within me.”

‭‭Psalm‬ ‭51‬:‭10‬ ‭KJV‬‬

The writer acknowledges in total transparency, that he needs GOD not to rearrange things while holding on to whatever is already in his heart that is not right, but to actually renovate and completely rebuild his heart. But, he doesn’t stop there with his open confession to GOD. He then says where he has lost his way by allowing a spirit of unrighteousness to settle in him, he pleads to GOD to make the spirit inside of him like new. New thoughts, new actions, new reactions, new intentions…

“how much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without spot to God, purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?” ‭‭Hebrews‬ ‭9‬:‭14‬ ‭KJV‬‬

The Scripture says to us, GOD through the Blood of CHRIST JESUS who died on the cross at Calvary (an innocent man), Who gave His life so that we would be made free from the sins that are so easily acted out in us and by us and with a pure heart and a sound mind we should maintain to honor and obey our Father in Heaven.(Romans 6:14)

“If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” 1 John‬ ‭1‬:‭8‬-‭9‬ ‭KJV‬‬

A huge part of our relationship with GOD is being open with Him (though He knows already) and honest with ourselves that we do sin and fall short of His glory (or standards of obedience).(Romans 3:23) The Scripture warns us that if we think that we live perfect lives we are only fooling ourselves and that lie lives in us. He then promises us that if we do own up to our weaknesses while in this fleshly body, He will forgive us of the things that are unclean in us and He will clean us up by faith in Him and belief that He will actually do it.

“Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, when the times of refreshing shall come from the presence of the Lord;” ‭‭Acts‬ ‭3‬:‭19‬ ‭KJV‬‬

One of the actions we must take toward achieving Salvation is to repent or “turn away from” those things that are not pleasing in the sight of GOD. At that point we can be changed from the old ways of doing things and our sins will be forgiven and forgotten by GOD Himself and life walking in Him will bring about a new change in and through our LORD JESUS CHRIST.

Final Thought: “Who can say, I have made my heart clean, I am pure from my sin?”

‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭20‬:‭9‬ ‭KJV‬‬

Be honest with yourself and the more with GOD, our sense of self righteousness is not His. So then who living is able to say that they have a clean heart (Jeremiah 17:9) and do not sin according to how GOD sees sin? There is no one who can honestly (with a pure conscience) say that, according to the Scriptures. No not one!(Romans 3:10) So, with that knowledge and wisdom through GOD’s Word, we all should be humbly before Him every day crying out, asking Him to.. PURGE ME O’GOD!!!
