Why Choose To Drown?180th BDS – April 26, 2026

Scripture Reference: Matthew 14:27-32
The choice to sink into the lowest places in life is truly that.. it is a personal choice. Sure, the weight of responsibilities, other’s expectations of you, career paths, and everything else if allowed to that is thrown at you can be a burden. In some cases, it can feel like you were literally tossed into the ocean with cement shoes on! Those that choose to believe in Him, know that we have a SAVIOR Who has instructed us of what to do with the boulders that seemingly would bury us beneath the surface that we should be walking on simply because He cares. (1 Peter 5:6-7) So why would you allow anything or anyone to hold you down to the point that you can’t even breathe?

Grab your Bibles and let’s dive in!!!

“But straightway Jesus spake unto them, saying, Be of good cheer; it is I; be not afraid.” Matthew 14:27 KJV
Our LORD JESUS has comforted us through His Word that we have nothing to fear because He is with us and His joy is our strength!!! (Nehemiah 8:10)

“And Peter answered him and said, Lord, if it be thou, bid me come unto thee on the water. And he said, Come. And when Peter was come down out of the ship, he walked on the water, to go to Jesus.”
Matthew 14:28-29 KJV
Peter still didn’t believe that it was JESUS speaking to them, much like many to this day who do not believe that they too are being called out of darkness into His marvelous light (Colossians 1:12-14) by forgiving the things that are done that are not pleasing in His sight. There in, there is a need to step out on faith in GOD’s Word if for no other reason, in knowing that He is faithful and promised to do so. (1 Thessalonians 5:24, Hebrews 10:23)

“But when he saw the wind boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink, he cried, saying, Lord, save me. And immediately Jesus stretched forth his hand, and caught him, and said unto him, O thou of little faith, wherefore didst thou doubt?”
Matthew 14:30-31 KJV
When the weather shifted and became a tough go of it for Peter, he panicked and began to drown. He did however, have the presence of mind to call on The LORD in his desperation, while reaching out his hand to be saved. What JESUS said to Peter while saving him, is the same thing that He is saying to us whenever our faith stands on shaky ground, when we receive bad reports from a doctor, when we battle health issues, in the midst of situations that leave us broken, battered, bruised and scarred.. where is the faith that when things are going well, seems to burst out of our pores?

Final Thought: “And when they were come into the ship, the wind ceased.”
Matthew 14:32 KJV
This Scripture (simplistic as it is), is one of the most powerful written in The Holy Bible!!! After Peter was saved by JESUS and they were safely back in the boat, the weather shifted again. Our FATHER in Heaven is giving everyone time to come to Him. Not only that, but to lay down everything that is a burden (Matthew 11:28) on our hearts, minds and that ultimately weigh us down to the point that it’s even physically hard to look up. At the same time, His arms are open wide and His hands are stretching out continuously inviting us into peace and rest in Him through faith. So then.. WHY CHOOSE TO DROWN?
